blog 81 Anja (Anja for Ghana) came to visit

January 16th, 2026 Anja arrived in Sandema. The next Monday she came to school for the first time. She was a bit nervous, because she isn’t a teacher and neither has knowledge of children with a disability. But she did a fantastic job! To be honest, she did all things we don’t have time for. She read with the children, did a lot of artwork (making a chain with pieces of straw, made pompons with everybody, she made elephant faces to do some speech lessons….. and much, much more!

She also gave all children new cloths; she brought plenty new books, new materials and, last but not least: a combi fridge-freezer! We are very happy and greatfull for that.

What the children liked most was the balloon-man. Anja brought balloons that you can knot together. That is very special. She made a man out of them. The man was hanging and the children were sitting around it, in a big circle. They all had a piece of cardboard. Godfred or Margreet was playing the drum: loud meant waving fast and drumming softly meant waving slow. When the children were waving hard, the balloon-man was dancing wildly, and when the children were waving slow, the balloon-man was dancing slow. It was hard work and a lot of fun!

Anja, thank you very much for everything you did. (I am aware I didn’t mention everything). And we all, staff and children would like you to come again!
