82 Update about the Lumen Mundi school
We welcomed a new child: Swabiratu. She smiles all the time. She is 5 years old and she joins Madam Meriga’s group. Swabiratu cannot talk, nor walk. Madam Meriga massages her every day, and we hope she can walk and sit straight in future. Madam Meriga has 4 children in her group. Of which we can say now that it is full.
In Godfred’s group we have 8 children, in Mary’s group 5, And last but not least: Arafat as the first student in the Community Based Workshop.
We changed the way of working. We don’t work with the group as a whole anymore, exceptions left. It means that every child gets the attention he or she needs. This is difficult for the teachers, because they have to be attentive all the time, keep track of what everybody is doing. But the result is there: Saviour and Ezekiel are reading better and better.
In the morning, after the opening and breakfast, we start learning activities: Mathematics, phonics, English language, reading, history, geography. After lunch we do either creative arts, story telling, fine motor skills, physical education or games. All in small groups that approximally have the same level.
On Friday afternoons we all clean the class or we dance and make music.
